Before you order: confirm your screen fits

Different vehicle generations have different screens — and that's the most common reason people end up with a protector that doesn't quite work. A few quick checks before you buy:

  • Rivian R1S / R1T: Gen 1 (2021–2024) and Gen 2 (2025–2026) have identical displays.
  • Tesla Model 3 / Y: 3 distinct groups.
    • Single 15" screen protector fits 2019–2025 Model Y and 2017–2023 Model 3
    • Set 15.4" main screen protector and 8" rear screen protector - fits Model 3 Highland 2024+ and some model Y.
    • Set 16" main screen protector and 8" rear screen protector - fits newest Model Y Juniper - confirm you have the 16" screen.
  • Tesla Model S / X: Refresh Plaid / Long Range (2021+) is different from earlier years. Also the rear screen in years 2021 and 2022 has a larger rim. The front screen is the same.
  • Cybertruck: Front/main screen is 18.5". Rear screen is 9.4". Most kits include both — confirm in the product title.
  • Lucid Air: Includes Pilot, Main, and Back displays. Sets vary — some are full 3-piece, others are individual.
  • Cadillac: The protector marketed for Lyriq/Optiq may fit other models. Pictures should be enough to judge. The set for Escalade IQ may not fit non-electric versions. Again, pictures should be enough to judge — it's 56" wide screen.
  • Ford F150 Lightning and Mach-E: Ford F-150 Lightning comes with 2 possible options 12" horizontal screen in the lower trims and 15.5" vertical screen in the higher trims. Mach-E only offers the 15.5" vertical screen.
Notice: Mach-E has a smaller screen on the dashboard behind the wheel. Notice this is screen is not a touch screen and doesn't need a screen protector.

Not sure which one you have? Email hello@twraps.com with your vehicle's year, model, and a photo of the screen. We'll confirm fitment before you order.

What's in the box

Every TWRAPS screen protector kit includes:

  • The screen protector(s) — one piece per screen, or a multi-piece set if your vehicle has multiple displays.
  • An alcohol prep wipe to clean the screen.
  • A microfiber cloth for final wiping.
  • Dust removal stickers — small tacky stickers used to lift any dust that ends up under the protector during install.
  • Guiding stickers - to position the screen without peeling the backing.
  • An applicator card (squeegee) for smoothing out air bubbles.

Open the package indoors in a low-dust area before you begin. The fewer airborne particles around, the cleaner your install will be.

"My screen protector looks cloudy or used" — read this first

Peel the outer protective film.

Side-by-side comparison of a TWRAPS screen protector with the outer protective film still attached versus removed, showing the difference between the cloudy/dull appearance and the crystal clear finish

Every TWRAPS screen protector ships with a clear protective film on the outer face — separate from the install side. It's there to keep the surface scratch-free during shipping and installation. Once your protector is on the screen, look for a small tab on a corner and peel that outer layer off.

An exception to that are the screens with black border - Refresh model S/X, Model 3 Highland and Model Y Juniper. The front protective film for those is removed during the manufacturing process to apply the black border.

Without that step, the surface looks dull, hazy, or marked up — exactly like a used part. With it removed, your matte protector looks evenly matte, and your gloss protector looks crystal clear.

Order of operations: use the guiding stickers to perfectly position the screen → peel the inner adhesive backing → place the protector on the screen → smooth out air → peel the outer protective film.

If you've removed both protective layers and the surface still doesn't look right — uneven matte texture, scratches you didn't make, visible defects — email hello@twraps.com with photos and we'll take care of your issue.

Installation

Full step-by-step videos and instructions live on each product page (search for your product on twraps.com and scroll to the INSTALLATION section). The general flow is the same:

  1. Park indoors in a low-dust environment. A garage works. Avoid windy or dusty areas. Turn off the AC and turn on screen cleaning mode.
  2. Clean the screen thoroughly. Use the alcohol prep wipe, then dry and polish with the microfiber cloth. Hold the screen up to a side light to catch any remaining dust.
  3. Test alignment dry first. With the adhesive backing still on, hold the protector over the screen to confirm it lines up. Note where the edges should land. Apply the guiding stickers to hold the screen in that perfect position.
  4. Peel the inner adhesive backing and lower the protector onto the screen, starting from one edge and rolling it down rather than dropping flat.
  5. Smooth from the center outward with the applicator card to push out any trapped air.
  6. Peel the outer protective film (the step from the section above) — last. Use the paper squeegee to remove the final bubbles.

If your kit includes more than one piece (front, rear, pilot), do them one at a time and don't rush.

Troubleshooting

Bubbles after install

Try to smooth them by gently lifting the screen and guiding it to stick using the paper squeegee. Importantly, try not to get a fingerprint on the adhesive side. If a bubble is really stubborn, it has likely trapped dust. Use the dust-removal procedure below.

Dust trapped under the protector

  1. Lift the protector from the corner closest to the dust — only as far as needed to reach about an inch past the dust spot. Don't remove the entire protector; that just introduces new dust.
  2. The dust will be on the adhesive side of the protector.
  3. Press a dust-removal sticker onto the adhesive side over the dust. The sticker has higher tack than the protector's adhesive, so the dust transfers to the sticker.
  4. Avoid touching the adhesive with your fingers — fingerprints leave oily marks.
  5. Re-apply the protector and smooth from the lifted edge back to flat.

Touch sensitivity feels off

Most modern car displays let you adjust touch sensitivity in the display settings. Bump it up one or two steps and re-test. If specific spots feel unresponsive, you likely have a bubble or dust at that location — see the bubble or dust sections.

Lifted edges

The Cybertruck's main screen has tight bezels and angled edges. If an edge starts lifting:

  • Press the edge firmly with the applicator card or a clean cloth.
  • If pressing alone doesn't hold it, warm the edge from a distance with a hairdryer on low for 10–20 seconds, then press again. Heat softens the adhesive and helps it bond.
  • If the lifting keeps coming back, send us photos — there are a few cases where the edge geometry is fighting the adhesive and a replacement is warranted.

Display looks "different" after install (matte vs gloss)

Matte protectors slightly diffuse the display — that's how they kill glare. Some customers expect zero visual change; in practice, matte will always look a little softer than the bare screen. If you wanted maximum clarity, the Clear/HD versions match the bare screen more closely.

Software or display behavior changed

Screen protectors don't talk to the car's software. If your display is rebooting, glitching, or showing odd behavior after install, that's almost certainly a separate vehicle software issue — not the protector. Try a vehicle reboot first (consult your owner's manual). If the issue tracks the protector exactly, email us with details.

Care & cleaning

  • Use a microfiber cloth, dry or with a small amount of water. Avoid alcohol, ammonia, and abrasive cleaners on the protector surface.
  • For matte versions, don't apply screen cleaning sprays heavily — light water mist plus microfiber is enough.
  • If a small chip or scratch develops over time, that's the protector doing its job. The protector is designed to be replaceable — order a new one when it stops looking great.
