Before you order: confirm vehicle and phone
Two compatibility axes to check.
1. Your vehicle
-
Tesla Model 3 / Y:
- 1st-gen chargers fit 2017–2020 Model 3 and 2019-2020 Model Y. This is for the center console that pops open.
- 2nd-gen chargers fit 2021+ Model 3 (pre-Highland) and 2021+ Model Y (pre-Juniper). This is for the center console that slides open.
- Highland Model 3 (2024+) and Juniper Model Y (2026+) dual MagSafe offering coming soon.
- Highland Model 3 and Juniper Model Y dashboard phone mount - compatible with Felt, Alcantara and Carbon Fiber dashboards.
- Rivian R1S / R1T: Dual center console chargers and both dashboard phone chargers fit 2021–2026 across Gen 1 and Gen 2
- Ford Mustang Mach-E: 2021–2026.
- Ford F-150 Lightning: 2021–2026. Notice there's Type 1 and Type 2 depending on trim
- Ford Bronco: 2021–2026. Notice there's Type 1 and Type 2 depending on trim and year. May fit other vehicles too - check with pictures.
- Lucid Air: 2021–2026. It does NOT fit Gravity.
- Cadillac (LYRIQ, OPTIQ, ESCALADE IQ): Variants per model — check the product title.
2. Your phone
While your phone is important, your case is most important. Ensure that the case is advertised as "MagSafe compatible" and made by a reputable supplier.
- iPhone 12 and newer: Built-in MagSafe magnets. Snap into place automatically. Ideal compatibility.
- iPhone 11 and older: No built-in magnets. Will sit on the pad and may charge slowly via Qi, but won't lock magnetically. A MagSafe-compatible case helps.
- Android phones: Use a MagSafe-compatible case or magnetic ring sticker for proper alignment and charging. Without one, the phone won't lock and charging may be unreliable.
-
Case thickness: Wireless charging penetrates roughly up to 3mm.
Thick rugged cases (OtterBox Defender, etc.) or cases with metal plates can block charging. If unsure, remove the case and test.
Notice for Google Pixel phones: Pixel 9 and 10, as well as fold have been widely reported to overheat on wireless chargers, including the TWRAPS chargers. This is caused by the phone’s charging behavior, not a defect in the charger. Purchase with caution.
Charger vs. mount-only — what did you order?
Some product variants in this category are mount-only: they hold the phone magnetically but don't transmit power. Others are chargers: they include the magnet plus active wireless charging.
Check your order confirmation. If the product title says "Mount" or "Phone Holder" without "Charger" or "Charging," you have a mount-only variant. If you wanted a charger and got a mount, contact us — we'll help you exchange.
Most dashboard products specifically come in two flavors: a magnetic mount (no charging) and a charging puck variant. The product title or variant picker will indicate which.
Charger isn't working — start here
Run through this list before assuming the charger is defective. About 80% of "not working" reports come down to one of these four:
- Power source. The charger draws power from a 12V outlet, USB-C port, or center console power source depending on your vehicle. Confirm that port is live by plugging in another device. Some Tesla and Rivian USB ports only deliver power when the car is on or unlocked.
- Phone case. Cases over ~3mm thick or with metal/magnet plates block wireless charging. Remove the case and test. If it works without the case, you need a thinner or MagSafe-compatible case.
- Magnetic alignment. The phone must align with the charging coil. With MagSafe phones, you'll feel a satisfying snap into place. If your phone isn't snapping, you either have a non-MagSafe phone, a non-MagSafe case, or the magnet ring is misaligned with the puck.
- You ordered a mount, not a charger. See the section above. Mount-only variants don't charge.
Setup & install
Each product page has a video and written install instructions. The general flow:
- Park the vehicle and turn on accessories. Some installs need the screen lit so you can see what you're doing.
- Clean the surface where the charger mounts — alcohol wipe, then dry. Dust and oil break adhesion.
- Route the power cable behind the dash, console, or trim per your vehicle's specific guide. Avoid pinching it where panels close.
- Attach the charger to its designated location. Most TWRAPS chargers either snap into the existing console pad area or anchor without adhesive.
- Plug in the power cable to the appropriate port (12V or USB-C).
- Test with your phone before closing up trim or routing cables permanently.
For dashboard phone holders that anchor to the area behind the screen or to AC vents, the install is no-adhesive — they wedge or clip in place. If it feels loose, re-seat firmly and double-check you have the right variant for your vehicle.
Troubleshooting by symptom
Phone doesn't start charging at all
Run the four-point checklist in the section above. If all four pass and it still doesn't charge, try a different phone (any MagSafe iPhone) — that tells you whether the issue is your phone or the charger. If a known-good phone also doesn't charge, the charger likely needs replacement; email hello@twraps.com with your order number.
Phone charges very slowly
Common causes: thick case is reducing throughput, the phone supports a lower wattage standard than the charger outputs, or the power source isn't delivering enough current. Check your phone's charging speed indicator — many phones display "Charging" vs "Fast Charging" in the lock screen. If it's stuck on standard, remove the case and re-test.
Charging starts and stops repeatedly
Intermittent connection means the alignment is shifting. Check that the phone is fully snapped into the magnetic ring. Driving on rough roads can dislodge non-MagSafe phones; if your phone doesn't have built-in MagSafe magnets, install a MagSafe-compatible case or stick-on magnetic ring. Also check the power cable — a loose 12V or USB-C plug will cause cycling.
Phone or charger gets very hot
Some warmth is normal — wireless charging is less efficient than wired and the difference becomes heat. To reduce heat:
- Remove anything between the phone and the pad — credit cards, coins, wallet inserts. Metal in the field generates a lot of heat.
- Use a thinner case.
- Avoid charging in direct sunlight if possible.
- If the phone or charger is too hot to touch comfortably, stop and email us.
Magnet is too weak or phone slides off
The magnet in the charger is fixed strength — designed to hold a MagSafe iPhone (or Android phone with a MagSafe case) securely. If the magnet feels weak, the most likely causes:
- Phone or case has no magnets — the charger's magnets have nothing to grip. Add a MagSafe case or stick-on magnetic ring.
- Heavy phone case has shifted the phone's center of gravity. The magnet holds, but rotation and weight pull the phone off-axis.
- If a known-good MagSafe phone in a thin case still won't grip, the magnet ring may be defective — email us.
Phone keeps rebooting only on this charger
Reported on a small number of Mach-E plus Android combinations. This is typically a charging-protocol negotiation issue between specific phone firmware and the charger. If your phone reboots only on this charger and not on other wireless chargers, email hello@twraps.com with your phone model and OS version. We'll work with you on a fix or replacement.
The wood-skin or styled finish doesn't look like the photos
Each wood and skin variant is photographed under studio lighting — real-world appearance under your car's interior lighting will differ. The Dark Ash Wood, Matrix Black, and similar finishes are real materials, not printed graphics. If yours looks notably different from product photos (heavily damaged, wrong material), email us with photos.
Charger fits loosely in its mount location
Most TWRAPS chargers are designed to fit precisely in the OEM console area without adhesive. If yours feels loose, double-check the variant matches your vehicle generation — a 1st-gen Tesla Model 3 charger in a 2nd-gen Model 3 will not seat correctly. If the variant is right and it's still loose, email us with photos showing the gap.
Care
- Wipe the charging surface with a microfiber cloth. Avoid alcohol or harsh cleaners on the painted or skinned finish.
- Don't leave the phone on the charger in extreme heat (parked in direct sun for hours). It's not the charger's fault — it's just bad for the phone battery.
- Don't drop the charger or strike it — the magnet ring and induction coil can shift internally.
